You and Your Baby Deserve the Best Care Possible

Gynecologists — Dr. Ron Lichtenstein Surfing On A Wave in Fresno, CA
Dr. Ron Lichtenstein is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He received his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training at the New York Medical College, and moved to Fresno in July 1995, where he has been providing high quality, compassionate care since then. His approach to medicine is based on his belief that the delivery of health care is a partnership between patient and physician. The patient is the only one who has the right to make the decisions about her care, and the physician must use his knowledge and experience to help her achieve her goals.

Currently Dr. Lichtenstein is a Professor of Medicine at UCSF (Fresno division), and a member of various committees at Community Medical Centers. He combines his medical practice with his love of teaching. He is a member of the Central California Women’s Health group, and had been a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) since 1993. He is Board Certified in both obstetrics and gynecology.

From 1976 to 1982 Dr. Lichtenstein proudly served in the military (IDF). During the last three years of his service, he was a combat medic, and in 1982 war he was deployed in action. It was then that he decided to commit his future to the service of patients. That commitment, amalgamated in the battlefield over thirty years ago, continues to shape his current practice. He gladly accepts private insurance plans; but he is just as happy to see MediCal patients, and patient who have no insurance at all. Regardless of payment source, every patient receives the best and most respectful care.

Prior to medical school, Dr. Lichtenstein attended the UCLA biology program, studying dolphin communication. Sadly, Marineland of the Pacific was closed before he finished his research, so he received his Master and C.Phil. degrees in Herpetology. His research was in the rather esoteric area of mathematical modeling of foraging modes.

He is an avid surfer, who devotes his leisure time to the pursuit of the perfect wave. When asked about his favorite break, he has a hard time deciding. “Maalaea in Maui is the prettiest wave. Wategoes in Australia offers the most beautiful scenery. Tel Aviv in the summer is where you would find perfect A frames in 92 degrees water. The longest ride can be found on a good day at Indicators in Santa Cruz. But The Point at San Onofre is truly home. Yup. I think that is my favorite break”. Recently, Dr. Lichtenstein discovered the joy of SUPping (riding a StandUp Paddleboard) but “it doesn’t even come close to surfing a good wave in the traditional way. I will never cross over to the dark side” he states with certainty.
